Y2 - Diwali Party, by Miss Khan

Today at school, we had our Diwali party!
We dressed in our best bright clothes, made cards, played party games and made/decorated our very own diya lamps out of clay!
We also ate lots of scrumptious party food - thank you to everyone that brought in some tasty treats!
It has been the best day, now we are ready for a half term break :-)

World Mental Health Day!, by Miss Warden

Last week we supported World Mental Health Day. We enjoyed taking part in lots of different activities to promote positive mental wellbeing, including a fantastic yoga session where we learnt all about breathe work. We loved seeing a sea of yellow throughout school. Thank you to our well-being ambassadors for arranging such a great day!

Y2 - Baking Cupcakes, by Miss Khan

Today is our MacMillan coffee afternoon!
To support this event, Y2 went into our wonderful food tech room to bake a few batches of fairy cakes to be sold later today.
We carefully weighed the ingredients and took turns to mix the ingredients together, showing our school value of teamwork.
We hope you can make it to the bake sale to try one :-)

Y2 - Finger Gym Friday, by Miss Khan

Today, we had our first finger gym Friday session!
We manipulated modelling clay to form different shapes, eventually creating our very own snails!
The children loved this activity and can't wait for the next one :-)
Y2 - Carbon Monoxide Safety Workshop, by Miss Khan

Today, Y2 had a safety workshop all about carbon monoxide and the dangers that it can present.
We had an introductory assembly, followed by a session in our classrooms with 'Safety Seymour', where we had the opportunity to engage in lots of role play activities.
We also got a goody bag to take home, including a carbon monoxide alarm for our house to keep us safe!

Y2 - Pizza Making, by Miss Khan

This half term, our Science topic is 'Little Masterchefs'.
Part of our topic involved making our very own pizzas!
We made the dough from scratch, learnt how to knead the dough & added the toppings.
They were delicious :-)
Y2 - Tally Charts, by Miss Khan

Today, we began our new Maths unit on Statistics. One of our favourites!
After we had learnt how to form / read / interpret the data in a tally chart, we went outdoors to create our own!
We used objects in our environmnent and worked in small groups :-)

This week in school, it has been Sky Arts Week.
We have engaged in lots of discovery, exploration and mark making this week.
As the weather has been so lovely, we spent some time outdoors to complete our artwork too!
We have done mark making with a range of mediums, created a re-imagination of Paul Klee's artwork and joined a live lesson with Darcey Bussell!

In English we have been learning all about explanation texts.
In Science we have been learning all about plants.
So for our hot write, we wrote an explanation text - all about plants! We are so proud of these pieces of writing that we just had to show you :-)
Y2 Trip to MOSI & Bridgewater Hall, by Miss Khan

Today, we had the pleasure of doing two school trips in one day!
Off we went on the tram to the amazing Museum of Science and Industry, where we got to visit the experiments room and watch a show about revolution.
After lunch, we wandered down to the bridgewater hall to watch the Halle orchestra play an under the sea themed concert with songs & dancing for us to join in with!
Once we were safely back at school, we got to enjoy an ice lolly to cool us down after a busy day! We had the best time :-)

In Science, we having been learning all about plants.
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been able to plant our own plants and will be observing their growth over time.
We are also investigating how the amount of sunlight affects plant growth by putting some pots in different locations.

Last half term, we had the pleasure of attending forest school sessions with the wonderful Mr Moore.
We made mud paintings, collected wood, engaged in den building and even made fires!

Y2 Airport Trip, by Miss Khan

Yesterday, year 2 had the pleasure of visiting Manchester Airport on a school trip!
We were so excited for our adventure, travelling by coach and taking our packed lunches with us.
We had the opportunity to watch planes take off and land on the runway, visit Concord and go inside an actual plane!
Take a look at us as we sat in the cockpit, dressing up as pilots and cabin crew.
After lunch, we finished off our day with a trip to the onsite play area - what a fabulous day :-)

Our Spring DT topic was Textiles. We used a 2D template to create a 3D butterfly. We looked at diffrent types of stitches and then thought about ways to join decorations to our fabric.
Y2 - Library Trip, by Miss Khan

Today, we went on a little journey over to Stretford library!
When we arrived, we completed a book scavenger hunt, we created our own bookmarks, listened to a story read aloud to us and even got to choose a book each to bring home!
We had such a wonderful morning and were fully immersed in the wonderful world of books.

In Science this half term, we are learning about "Living things and their habitats".
Today, our focus was a local area study. We took a trip to Moss Park and went on a scavenger hunt, ticking off the plants, animals and habitats that we found along the way!
