Y2 - Attendance Treat, by Miss Khan

Today, Y2 celebrated their fantastic attendance effort with the best treat ever!

We hired a bouncy castle, ate ice-creams and played lots of ball games.

It was truly the best day! A wonderful way to celebrate the last few days with our friends before the summer break.

This week, it has been DT week!

Our branch of DT this term is 'Mechanical Systems'. We were focusing on 'Sliders and Levers'.

We have designed, made and evaluated a moving dragon mask, linking our dragons to those that we innovated in English!

Y2 - Paintings, by Miss Khan

To celebrate this year's World Cup, each class across the school has been given a country to focus on. 

We were drawn Saudi Arabia! So our first activity was to create a Saudi Arabian-inspired painting. 

We discussed ideas and decided to paint a desert scene, with sand dunes and camels. 

Just look at how beautiful they turned out :-)

Y2 - STEM Week - Pizzas, by Miss Khan

This half term, our STEM topic has been 'Little Masterchefs'.

Today, we made pizzas! Each of us worked in a small group to weigh, pour, mix and knead our own dough.

We rolled it out, added our toppings and cooked them in the oven!

We hope they taste as good as they look :-)

Y2 - Blotted Line Technique, by Miss Khan

This half term, we have been looking at "Pop Art". 

Today, we were introduced to the blotted line technique. 

We experimented with different paper types, before choosing the best (tracing paper) and completing a larger scale print!

Y2 - Playdough Fractions, by Miss Khan

This half term, we have been learning all about fractions!

To consolidate our understanding of the difference between one half, one quarter and one third, we created playdough shapes and split them into equal parts.

Y2 - School Trip to Manchester Airport, by Miss Khan

Today, Year 2 went on a school trip all the way to Manchester Airport!

This was for an educational visit, as our next History topic is all about the first flight, and how planes have changed over time.

We took a coach to get there and were greeted by the lovely Mark and Chris who provided our tour. 

We got to go inside a real plane, dress up in uniform, visit the cockpit and see real planes taking off!

We topped it off with a play in the park before we came back to school - we had the best day :-)

Y2 - Outdoor Maths, by Miss Khan

This half term, we have started our 'Fractions' topic. 

To recap prior learning, we took chalk onto the playground to draw examples of 'one half'.

This half term, our Science topic is all about 'Young Gardeners'. 

We have been learning about the parts of a seed, and what seeds need to grow. 

Today, we planted our very own bulbs, ready to watch their progress over the next few weeks!

Y2 - Vaisakhi, by Miss Khan

In the Spring holidays, many Sikh families celebrated Vaisakhi.

This week, Y2 have been working hard to bake biscuits and cakes for the whole school to share in celebration of this festival!

We have loved listening to some music, eating tasty treats and reading a book all about Vaisakhi today.

Thank you to the lovely Y6 children that also came round to deliver a presentation about Vaiskahi too :-)

This week, it has been DT week! One of our favourite weeks of the term.

Our topic has been 'Cooking & Nutrition', where we have been designing, making and evaluating pizza wraps!

We had to chop soft vegetables, grate cheese and spread the sauce. Lots of simple steps to make a tasty, healthy snack.

Today, we took a school trip to Stretford Library!

We had a wonderful time completing a book scavenger hunt, choosing books to take home, reading new books and listening to a story. 

Don't forget to take back any books that you received today :-)

Y2 - World Book Day, by Miss Khan

Today it is World Book Day! One of our FAVOURITE days of the year!

We have had a jam-packed day, celebrating our love of books. 

We have done wordsearches, read lots of books, had a costume parade, drawn our favourite characters, made book marks and have been on a scavenger hunt in our school library. It has been a wonderful day filled with books, books and more books :-)

2K - Final Forest School Session, by Miss Khan

On Tuesday, we had our final Forest School session with the wonderful Mr Moore!

We were so lucky to be able to have some of our grown ups join us for this session, building fires and roasting marshmallows. 

We have loved these sessions over the past half term :-)

Y2 - Children's Mental Health Week, by Miss Khan

This week, it has been Children's Mental Health Week. 

Our chosen activity was to do rock painting, to help calm our minds and try something new!

We also took part in a dancethon - thank you to all those that sponsored us for that. 

We have had a lovely week, emphasising how to keep our minds happy and healthy :-)

Y2 - Writing Instructions, by Miss Khan

This week, we have been learning all about how to write a set of instructions. 

Our first writing piece was all about "How to make crispy cakes"... so of course we had to make them!

We discussed time conjunctions for the order of instructions, which imperative verbs to use and the adverbs that we needed. 

Obviously, it was only right that we got to try one at the end ;-)

Y2 - Aboriginal Art, by Miss Khan

This half term we have started looking at Aboriginal Art.

We have learnt about the symbols used and read the story of the 'Rainbow Serpent'. 

Today, we created our own dreamtime journeys, and practised the dotted technique.

Y2 - Forest School Week 2, by Miss Khan

Today we had our second forest school session with Mr Moore. 

We were creating mud paintings, peeling sticks and chooping wood using lots of different tools. 

We had some mucky hands after this one! :-)

Today, 2K had their first forest school session. 

The focus was on den building, some of us even built a rope swing!
