Year 5 Great Science Share, by Mrs Tarry

June 11th is Great Science Share where school all ove rthe WORLD participate in Science and share thie findinds. The whole school did Science on this day, we watched a video to ignitie some questions then we carried out our own experiements using paper spinners.

Year 5 have been working hard all year on their Arts Award. We have looked at a mix of Arts and took a trip to Manchester Art Gallary. The final part was to showcase all of our amazing work for our families and friends.

Year 5 were taught by Mr Drayton from Stretford Grammar. We learnt about water resistance and investigated which shape is the best against water resistance.

Year 5 really enjoyed their session with Freddie Fit yesterday. We completed a hula hoop challenge and did circuit training!

Year 5 had a fantastic time at Tatton Park learning more about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We learnt how to braid, create a shield wall and how to create flour from wheat.

Year 5 got to use the saws and glue guns to create some world cup flagpoles. They worked in their team point groups.

On Monday 21st November, Year 5 took a trip to our local library. We loved seeing all the books on offer and exploring different authors. We even went on a scavenger hunt, searching for popular junior book covers that had been hidden just for us!
Y5 Trip to IMAX and Manchester Art Gallery, by Miss Rice

Year 5 enjoyed a fun-filled day in Manchester City Centre on Friday 18th November.
Children travelled using the Metrolink and arrived at the Printworks IMAX cinema to watch a film based on our previous science topic all about space. It was called 'Asteroid hunters'. It was very interesting and they learnt a lot! The cinema screen was huge and it felt very immersive!
We then visited Manchester Art Gallery. We had a look around the gallery and picked our favourite pieces of Art. Members of staff shared with us lots of interesting information about the individual pieces.
We then came back to school and did some work all about our day out!

Year 5 loved performing their Anglo-Saxon assembly to 3J and then to parents. They loved sharing all their knowledge they have learnt.

Year 5 created a model to show how the Earth rotates and orbits around the Sun. The model also shows how the Moon orbits the Earth.

Year 5 attended an online poet workshop. We wrote a poem about our favourite animal using similes and metaphors!
Staffordshire Hoard artefacts, by Miss Wallis

Year 5 really enjoyed looking at Staffordshire Hoard artefacts. They looked at how the artefacts can tell us about the life of the Anglo-Saxons and how the artefacts have limitations.

Year 5 worked in team point groups to create a much smaller version of the solar system. They used different equipment to represent different planets based on their size.
Year 5 Making Anglo-Saxon shields, by Miss Wallis

Year 5 had created some Anglo-Saxon shields using cardboard and tin foil. The shields will be used for the Anglo-Saxon assembly later on in the half term.

Year 5 had a fantastic Maths lesson with Lostock High School. They developed their memory techniques and had a go at some problem solving activities!

Year 5 went on a walk around Stretford. We went to Stretford Mall, Stretford Public Hall and St Matthew's Church. We made notes on how our local area has changed.

Year 5 had a fantastic time at Tatton Park learning more about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. They learnt about what weapons the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings used, they learnt how to farm and they learnt how to create a shield wall.
