Friday 27th March , by Miss Jones
Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 8:45am
Good morning.. happy Friday!
I thought I would come on and post before Joe Wicks goes live at 9am.. even us grown ups have been getting in to a routine of doing Joe Wicks every morning.
I was so impressed with all of your beautiful creations from yesterday’s challenge.. I will post them on twitter later, if you didn’t get chance to yesterday have a go at the “natures art challenge” inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.
Following the success or yesterday’s challenge I have been thinking about one that I could set you for today. Today’s challenge is to design and make a boat that will float on water, you can choose any materials that you have at home. You could use paper, newspaper, twigs or sticks I don’t mind! Don’t forget to post a picture of your marvellous creation on google classroom for us all to see.
If you want to continue with daily creative challenges have a look at the ideas sheet that was in your pack to keep you busy over the holidays.
It was great to see some more of you on Google Classroom yesterday, I enjoyed chatting to you all and answering some of the riddles you have come up with. If you haven’t logged on yet try and have a go today, it’s your Chromebook username with
@mpjs-Trafford.co.uk
and your chrome book password. Have a look in the front of your homework book at the log in sheet we filled in last week if you can’t remember or get stuck.
We hope that you have all been getting on ok with your learning packs. I will be checking on MyMaths later today to give those of you that haven’t completed it a chance to do it and setting another one for you to compete today or over the holidays. I will also set a battle on TT rocks for over the holidays between 5J and 5H.. come on 5J (sorry 5H!!)
And finally, don’t forget to read and record it in your reading records, we still want to aim for 3 reads a week with a grown up at home.. I can’t wait to have a look through your reading records when we go back to school.. imagine how many raffle tickets you could build up over the next few weeks!! Remember it doesn’t have to be your school reading book, it can be any books, comics, magazines, newspapers, recipes, instructions or online articles that you might have around the house.
Miss Horvath and I hope that you have a relaxing Easter break with your family, fingers crossed this lovely sunshine stays with us so we can spend lots of time outside and we look forward to hearing all about it and speaking to you all again after the holidays.
Have fun and stay safe!!
Miss Jones and Miss Horvath x
Ps. Don’t forget to comment below if you have any questions or just want to say hi, I will reply to you all throughout the day :)
Thursday 26th March , by Miss Jones
Date: 26th Mar 2020 @ 8:59am
Good morning,
It looks like it's going to be another beautiful day! How many have you have been for a walk searching for rainbows in peoples windows? Why don't you go for a walk today and as your walking collect as many pieces of nature eg. Twigs, leaves and stones and when you return home create a piece of art work from all of these natural resources. Have a look at the artist Andy Goodsworthy for some inspiration! We would love to see your pieces of art, you can upload them to google classroom later today!!
Remember - when logging onto to google classroom it is your chrome book username but you MUST add @mpjs-Trafford.co.uk so it appears like an email address, then use your chrome book password and you will be all set to go!! I have been replying to some children on google classroom.. it would be great to see more of you on there later today :)
Don't forget to check your schedule to see which pieces of work need completing today.
Stay safe and have a lovely day in the sun!

Wednesday 25th March, by Miss Horvath
Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 8:34am
Good Morning Year 5!
Miss Jones and I have both really enjoyed reading some of your riddles that you have posted for one another on the classroom. We will post another for you to answer today!
Today you should be focusing on the third set of activities from your pack. Again, there has also been a MyMaths set, please check if you have not already completed. We have also set an assignment on the classroom for anyone who wants to share the work they have done at home so far! One of you asked whether this should be by docs or slides - you can choose!
Miss Higson has kindly reminded us all that you can send a comment to us via these blogposts - if there is something you're not sure about. Your message will come up to the teachers. Just scroll down a bit now to where it says 'Post your comment'. Why don't you see if it works and say hi!
Alongside your pack work, why don't some of you (if you can) get creative? Choose a challenge from the list below and go for it! (Check the challenge is okay with your adults first). You could also try out a Rube Goldberg machine - think back to our science lessons on them. I have attached some links to some good examples below.

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 8:30am
Good Morning Year 5!
We hope that you all had a good day yesterday and that you managed to create an effective home learning time table. Remember that you need a good balance of work, play and exercise!
Joe Wicks will be posting exercise videos on youtube every morning from 9am (but you can play them whenever you find the time). You could also look at some just dance and get whoever is at home with you involved in the fun!
Look at your schedules for today's activities in your packs and complete those when you can. Remember to write the name of the task and today's date in your exercise books.
Today we have set MyMaths for you to complete as well. Try to complete it by Friday! We would also like you to try to access times table rockstars. We will be checking who is accessing My Maths and times table rockstars and we will be looking for those extra proactive home learners to reward when we return to school!
Miss Horvath and Miss Jones have been looking at riddles today! Who can answer our riddle? Post your answers on google classroom!
Remember: Don’t forget there are plenty of games on websites such as Top Marks, BBC Bitesize and purple mash for you to play and learn at the same time!
Take care and if you can, make the most of the sunshine.

Good Morning Year 5! , by Miss Horvath
Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 9:09am
Good morning Year 5!
We hope you have had a lovely weekend despite all the uncertainty at the moment. We are looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful work and speaking to you on google classroom.
Your first task today is to create a home learning timetable. Work with your adult at home to agree a daily timetable from Monday-Friday. Think about chunking the day up with set times for the following:
1. Wake up time
2. Breakfast/get ready
3. School work (2-3 hours)
4. Exercise (30 minutes)
5. Reading and adding to your reading record (2 separate 30 minute slots)
6. Creative activties such as drawing (1 hour)
7. Diary writing to reflect on the day (30 minutes)
8. Helping with chores at home (30 minutes)
9. Don't forget break times too!
Record your timetable in your exercise book. Todays date Monday 23rd March and title Home Learning Timetable. Try to organise a work space too (a table is best if you can).
You also have the work set in your home learning packs for today. Try to log this in your exercise books as much as possible with the name of the task as the title.
We would usually have rotation on a Monday morning, therefore, why don't you check out Joe Wicks' morning workout and complete at home? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

Remember: Don’t forget there are plenty of games on websites such as Top Marks, BBC Bitesize and purple mash for you to play and learn at the same time!
We will continue to update the blog each morning with other tasks and ideas for the rest of the week.
We hope you enjoy your first home learning day. Keep safe and work hard! Don't forget to check google classroom where we will post activities and links to websites :)

The big finish
Year 5 researched and debated whether ‘the Anglo-Saxon period should have been known as the dark ages’. We divided ourselves in to two teams, for and against. A lot of us surprisingly changed our mind!! We were able to think critically and question each other accordingly.
Did you agree or disagree with the statement?

DT- bread, by Miss Jones

Year 5's DT topic is bread, we began our topic by thinking about different types of bread, we then discussed our 5 senses and but together a 'wow' list of vocabulary which we could use to describe the bread when we tasted it. Our favourite part was our product analysis of bread where we got to taste 8 different types! We then created a line graph to analyse the ratings which we gave each bread type. We can't wait to make our own bread product which is going to be Anglo- Saxon style bread.
How does bread link to the Anglo- Saxons?
