Outdoor Science Seed Finding, by Miss Lee
Date: 19th Jun 2018 @ 4:34pm
Today in Science, we began to learn about different Life Cycles.
We started off with plants. We learnt that plants produce seeds inside their flowers and fruits. However, we learnt this through finding it out for ourselves. Also, it's lovely to make the most of the warm weather and take learning outside!

UK Landmark Research and Presentations, by Miss Lee
Date: 14th Jun 2018 @ 1:53pm
The children did an awesome job this week researching UK Landmarks. They were only given 40 minutes to research, create a poster and present their information.
I can really see the difference in teamwork, maturity and presentation skills since the beginning of the year.
We all learned lots about the different UK landmarks.
Can you tell me a fact or two about a landmark you researched and perhaps even a fact on a landmark someone else presented?

Lunch Take One Picture, by Miss Lee
Date: 23rd May 2018 @ 12:30pm
We've had a bit of a problem with the clay... it keeps cracking! So those that needed to be redone yesterday weren't painted white. However, the children were more than happy to help me out at lunch painting the tiles white, ready for colour tomorrow.
Thank you my helpers!

Take One Picture Lesson 2, by Miss Lee
Date: 22nd May 2018 @ 4:45pm
Oops! Some of the clay cracked over night... No worries though, as the children, whose pieces did not survive the night, were happy to start again. We realised that the ones that did not crack were thicker so the children magpied this. We wanted to go straight to painting the tiles with colour but faced a problem; they are all a very dark brown colour. So before we will do that, we decided to paint them white.
The pictures don't show huge amounts of change, however they are looking much more suitable for colour on Thursday.

URENCO Science visit, by Mrs Grainger
Date: 22nd May 2018 @ 12:46pm
Year 5 have been lucky enough to receive a visit from Martin from URENCO today. We have done lots of practical investigations; including separating mixtures, testing for acids, alkalines and neutrals using different indicators, cromotography and using a centrifuge. All these processes were done to show the children how scientists have to use a range of strategies and investigations to solve a problem. There was some great teamwork on display today, Year 5. Remember - 'Safe sensible scientists survive to do more Science.'
Which was your favourite investigation? What did you learn today?
Take One Picture Lesson 1, by Miss Lee
Date: 21st May 2018 @ 5:10pm
This afternoon we have been making clay tiles based on The Stonebreaker by John Bret.
We were inspired by the nature in the picture so we used natural resources from the playground to make imprints onto the clay. It was a lovely, sunny afternoon, while we went outside to do some flower picking!
With attention to detail, the children have produced some lovely pieces. I cannot wait for them to dry and to paint them tomorrow! Check their progress on here.
Ancient Islamic Civilisation Market Stall!, by Miss Lee
Date: 18th May 2018 @ 11:46am
Yesterday, 5L went back in time! We were transported to 900AD, during the Golden Age of Islam. We saw all the amazing goods they used to sell and learnt how they got their goods.
Can you remember any goods that were traded into Baghdad? Even better if you can rememeber where they got their goods from! Please comment below!

Final History Presentations, by Miss Lee
Date: 18th May 2018 @ 11:35am
Well done 5L! We have finished our Inquiry Based Learning Topic - Ancient Islamic Civilisations vs Vikings.
The children all independently conducted their own research and chose how they wanted to present their information. We have Powerpoints, venn diagrams and one group even treated us to a play!
I was so impressed by everyone! You all worked really hard.
Please comment and tell me:
What have you learnt so far about the Ancient Islamic Civilisation?

History and Geography combo, by Mrs Richardson
Date: 17th May 2018 @ 5:03pm
Today we travelled back to Baghdad in the year 900AD. We set up a market stall with some of the goods people were able to buy and we used our geography skills to find out where in the world they had come from. The children found out about world trade and how Baghdad was the centre of it at that time. They also discovered where all the things we take for granted now, came from, like paper, glass and wax. Great skills and team work year 5!
Enjoying the sunshine with a good book, by Mrs Richardson
Date: 17th May 2018 @ 4:51pm
Year 5 took the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine this afternoon and finish our class novel, Kensuke's Kingdom. We have been looking at flashback stories, based on our novel, and the children have almost finished writing their own.
Feedback, evaluations and working together , by Miss Lee
Date: 14th May 2018 @ 5:12pm
In English, the children are preparing their flashback stories for their Hot Write. However, the stakes are high for our new Hot Write, as the children will be visiting Moss Park Infant School soon, where the children will meet the Year 2s (future Year 3s) and share their stories with them.
Therefore, we thought it would be important to share our plans with our friends to hear some feedback before writing the story in full. The children had the chance to add in extra details in their plans, to help the Year 2 readers understand everything that happens in the story. It was also nice to get together to hear all the amazing ideas that the children came up with independently.
Watch this space for updates!
Why did you find this exercise helpful to improve your story? What changes did you make?
In 5L, what 3 things do we say that feedback needs to be? Clue = KSH!

RE Multi-Religious Community Centre Group Project, by Miss Lee
Date: 14th May 2018 @ 5:06pm
5L are amazing at group work. We have been working hard all year about what group work should look like. Everyone was engaged today in RE planning their Multi-Religious Community Centre reading for the big opening! We will be writing about it in a newspaper article, as we like to practise English in other areas of the curriculum.
What a fantastic start!
Rube Goldberg Lesson 2 Videos, by Miss Lee
Date: 14th May 2018 @ 4:55pm
We did it! All children successfully made a Rube Goldberg machine. Some children even took to the challenge where they needed to include a simple machine. Which simple machine did you include in your Rube Goldberg machine? Did you enjoy these lessons?
Enjoy the videos!

Date: 10th May 2018 @ 5:12pm
This week in Art Attack club we looked at Edvard Munch's famous painitng, 'The Scream'. The children used watercolours, ink and photography to create their own versions. The results were very effective. Can you name any other famous paintings we could try our own versions of?

Outdoor Maths Measuring, by Miss Lee

We had a challenge today in maths to measure and scale down the playground. Although it was extremely hot and the task in hand was very challenging, the children tried their best measuring and plotting the playground!
Rube Goldberg Lesson 1, by Mrs Richardson
Date: 4th May 2018 @ 5:02pm
In science we have looking at simple machines and seeing how they work. We have started to design our own Rube Goldberg machines in groups and are looking forward to making them. What simple tasks could a Rube Goldberg machine carry out?
Holiday Homework 2, by Miss Lee
Date: 4th May 2018 @ 4:53pm
We saw some more awesome Greek Myth Homeworks, which were presented to the class today.
The children were very brave speaking in front of the class, showing off what they have learnt and their amazing creations! Well done 5L!
UK vs USA!, by Miss Lee
Date: 1st May 2018 @ 5:55pm
In Geography, the children have been enjoying learning about the famous landmarks of America!
They have been working in groups and using the iPads to research about these landmarks as well as locating them on the class map.
What is your favourite landmark of USA that you have learnt about so far? Could you tell me some facts about it?
Thank you for your co-operation in the classroom!
Still Images and Drama, by Miss Lee
Date: 1st May 2018 @ 3:47pm
In English, we compared the 5 main events of 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and a 5L original story 'Big Foot's Kingdom' in order to explore characters.
Through the drama, we learnt more about the character we made up, Sophie. What did you learn about her through drama today 5L?
